A rock garden, also known as an alpine garden or a rockery is a small plot of land that is decorated with stones, boulders and rocks, arranged in a way that allows for small plants to be planted among the rocks.
Aside from occasionally pulling weeds, rock gardens are very low maintenance. They can withstand harsh weather and retain their polished look throughout the seasons. A lack of rain, too much sun, or too little sun won’t have much of an impact on the life and look of your rock garden.
If you do include other plants, they’ll probably require your attention, but the number and type will be completely up to you. Also, if you ever decide that you want to change certain aspects of the design, it’s as simple as relocating or repositioning the stones and rocks to fit your current mood.
Another great benefit of adding a rock garden to your landscape is increasing your home’s appeal and value. Features that are big draws for potential buyers are spaces and items that make the home unique.
Adding water features or a seating area to your rock garden, or even a path to another section of your yard or area of your home will stop buyers in their tracks. They may also be attracted to its low-maintenance qualities.
