The Ohio Hut is a multi-award-winning off-grid country home that is 600 sqft and off-grid! The unique design and clean look make up this space.
The hut was designed and built by Greg Dutton co-founder of midland architecture a firm specializing in vacation holiday homes his brother Chris Dutton helped manage the construction along with family and friends.
The interiors were finished and stylized by Liz who also has an interior design company this project sits in a quiet remote area of the family’s working cattle farm the Hutt was the recipient of a 2019 AIA Ohio architecture honor award and a 2020 AIA Columbus architecture honor award so this cabin is multi-award winning.
This cabin is tucked in the trees and surrounded by beautiful property and it is just a marvel to look at the cedar shingle siding around it even the roof so it’s all continuous and blends in together.
This is a very time-consuming sighting to do and the cedar siding should last a long time even underneath is super clean they have these pillars all around the I-beams it’s sitting up on and there’s just nothing even underneath it.
This is a clean look and it is beautiful there’s a custom wood door as well you got the metal steps that lead right up to it and the outside is pretty minimalistic out here and that is the beauty of this property, especially being surrounded by these Ohio native trees.
There is a picnic table out here and down this path, there is a fire pit with these wooden chairs all around it the hut is also totally off-grid there are solar panels off in the distance for the power, and the water is collected rainwater so that is a cool touch to all of this.
Inside This Hut
Whenever you walk in you’ll instantly see how roomy and airy this space is the earthy tones are everywhere really well with the minimalistic and Scandinavian design that this place has.
There are two sections to this place this front half which we’ll get to in a moment with all the windows it’s beautiful in here but the back half has the kitchen and the bathroom.
The Kitchen In this Hut
This kitchen space takes up this entire right side and you have a countertop and cabinet that’s been across this entire wall I love the wood countertops and even the shelf above it that spins across the entire wall well.
The dishes up here match with the rest of this cabin as being minimalistic and Scandinavian they look good being displayed up here and all the lights up here as well really help out with the space.
On the countertop, you got the sink in the middle and all of your cooking necessities on this site is a stovetop for any cooking that you need to do a couple of pots and pans hanging up, and then underneath are the black cabinets that look incredible.
In this cabinet you even got hidden drawers which is cool this is all custom made and there’s even enough space in here for a mini fridge on the back wall you got the white shiplap which looks incredible.
And just a couple of decorative pieces hanging up back here to tie the space in on the other side there is a small storage area and this door that leads into your bathroom space.

The Bathroom In This Hut
This bathroom is pretty spacious on this right side you have your toilet and your shower the drain is right in the middle of the floor and speaking of the floor it is all tiled that continues up the walls and the ceiling this entire room is the square tiling with the black and the white cool that it’s all tiled.
On this left side is your vanity space they have this wooden top that spans across the entire wall some towels on this side and then your sink and mirror and lights on this right side and that is the bathroom.

The Main Living Space
In this main living space, the floor-to-ceiling windows that take up this entire wall are beautiful that’s a lot of good natural lighting and just more earthy tones since all you see are trees, and the greenery matches well with the interior of the space.
The flooring in this cabin is this beautiful wide plank pine bleached floors and I just love the look and feel of them the shiplap continues all the way around in here as well.

In this living space, you have a leather couch a couple of chairs, and a table in the middle with some books they got a candle here and it’s just set up nicely and the three lights above it match well.

The Bedroom
This is bedroom space slash work spot if you need to there is a desk over here that is just decorated beautifully right against this window and you can work, read or do whatever you need to do this would be the perfect space to do that to get away from everything.
